Very excited to announce that our Quilt Club at G-Street fabrics is returning for another year! I’m really looking forward to a new year of quilting and sharing with friends. Click here to see our full schedule of upcoming meetings.
It was wonderful to see everyone returning for our first meeting on January 20th. Joan brought a gorgeous batik quilt to show – she used a kit from an Aussie designer and it is simply stunning. This week we had our first two snow storms. The blustery and cold wether outside is a perfect time to stay home and sew!
We spent some time catching up and talked about our plans and projects for this year. Our first project is Kona BOM Quilt, patterns are available on Robert Kaufman website and I will be posting notes each month for the block we are making. This quilt is made with solids, but fabric choices are very personal! I will be using a range of batiks from my stash.
Our second project is Lori Holt’s Checkerboard Chain quilt. This is basically an 9-patch quilt that forms a chain using 2.5″ square 9 patches alternating with 1.5″ square 9-patches. Basic measurements and fabric requirements have been posted under the project tab. This pattern can be easily adopted to a single color way, using multiple shades and a uniform background. I prefer using a variety of neutrals or “low volume” prints as background in my quilts to give them more dimension and interest. If you do chose a one or two color scheme for this quilt, make sure to have enough variety of medium-dark prints to make it fun!
Our new member, Chivita, mentioned a group called Quilting Divas who meet at the Olney library on the first Wed of every month. It sounds like a lovely group and I will need to do more research to find contact info.
Next month I will do a demo on making a Hexi Flower quilt using 2.5″ strips and 60 degree ruler. Also coming up next month is QuiltCon in Raleigh, NC on Feb 21-25. Kathleen and I are planning to attend, provided there is no major weather disruption.
Stay warm and happy quilting everyone!
