Quilt Club

February ’24 Club meeting

The forecast called for a snowstorm and I was a little concerned about not being able to meet my with lovely quilting friends. But we only got about an inch of snow, and nothing on the roads, so our meeting on Sat went on as planned! My friend Silvina was able to come and see how much fun we have.

It was a beautiful sunny day with clear blue skies – the pictures below are views from my kitchen, and while nice, don’t really do justice just how pretty the day was!

With only a couple of show and tell projects to share, I did most of the taking. I did 2 demos and discussed the projects we are working on this year. We also helped Joan put together her Kona block. It’s a complicated block but its looks so pretty. More details on our Kona BOM can be found here.

My first demo was on making hexagons using 60 degree ruler. The blocks are split in the middle, but look like EPP, only larger! Each hexi is 4″ tall, and I am piecing this little quilt on my machine. Using GE corner trimmer makes matching seams so easy!

There will be more about this project later on.

My second demo was about using Triangles on a roll – more details are in the Tools section. I find them to be so handy to make multiple HST units without having to do a lot of trimming. This demo also inspired everyone to want to make the Spruce Star Quilt! There is a plan to have a sewing group at my house in March to make a block.

In later meetings this year I may be doing a demo on how to use EQ8 software, as there have been some questions about its functionality. After I return from QuiltCon, I also will be posting notes for the second Kona block. Yes, I am going to drive down to Raleigh and enjoy all the beautiful quilts and warmer weather. Wish me a safe, fun-filled trip!

Happy quilting everyone!
