At our last quilt club meeting, Kathleen mentioned that there are currently 3 exhibits in Washington DC related to quilts. My son and I went to the first two during his recent visit and both were very inspiring. I took a few pictures at the Woven Histories exhibit, but then realized that there was a book showcasing all the items in this collection. My son gifted the book to me, which I will bring to our July Quilt Club meeting to share.
Woven Histories: Textiles and Modern Abstraction, National Gallery of Art, East Building, Concourse Galleries. Explores how abstract art and woven textiles have intertwined over the past hundred years. Closes July 28
We walked a few blocks from the National Gallery of Art to the Smithsonian Art Gallery. I’m a bit embarrassed to say that I’ve never been there! It’s a lovely space with lots to see and definitely warrants multiple visits. Amish quilts on display were spectacular! It’s a carefully curated collection, which we enjoyed very much.
Exhibit: Pattern and Paradox, The Quilts of Amish Women, the exhibit opens March 28, Smithsonian American Art Gallery. Closes August 26 https://americanart.si.edu/exhibitions/pattern-and-paradox
