About

Hello, my name is Katia and I am a maker. I’m also addicted to quilting!

A little about me & how I got into quilting. My grandma taught me how to sew, crochet and knit when I was about 5 years old. Knitting was always my favorite. After my first son was born, over 20 years ago, I decided that it would be “fun” to make him a quilt using the fabrics from his room. I made a coordinating crib bumper, dust ruffle, and a window shade. So, without any idea of what I was getting into, I got a couple of books, designed a simple 9-patch quilt, and started sewing. I quilted it myself with simple straight lines without a walking foot. It was a true labor of love! After that I was hooked, bought a Bernina 1008 and have loved quilting ever since.

A few years ago, when my oldest was getting ready to start college, I wanted to make him a new quilt to always remind him of home. We designed it together; I pieced it, and made my first-ever 40″ appliqué. It seemed appropriate to free-motion quilt it myself, learning as I went along. All in about 6 weeks. My son loves it and almost cried when it was finished! It has been his most treasured possession all through college.

Fast forward to now – I am quilting almost every day and learning machine embroidery. I now practice free-motion quilting on a long-arm, and while by no means an expert, enjoy quilting my own quilts and growing my skills.

I plan to share projects, patterns, and tips that will make quilting more enjoyable and hope to inspire new quilters. Please join me on this fantastic journey of making beautiful things with fabric and thread!

Just sew happy,

Katia
