Our December meeting was a celebration of another year of quilting with friends! We had some refreshments and shared our projects completed in 2023. I’ve decided to rename our scrappy quilt that we worked on this year to BUSY DAY QUILT. We had a surprise drop-in visit from Elizabeth show shared her beautiful portrait quilts. Thank you all who attended! Happy Holidays!
Our meeting on July 15th was small but fun! Summer is a busy time and we only 5 attendees, but I was able to answer lots of individual questions. We had a small fabric swap and there are still some fabrics left for later meetings. I brought sets of 2.5″ strips, others had leftovers pieces from projects they were finishing. I think we should keep the swap a permanent feature for the rest of the year.
Mei-Ling did a demo on making a quilt labels on Bernina 770- one method in the hoop and the other with specialty stitches. Labeling your quilt is very important and using the great features of our sewing machines makes it easy and fun!
Ann finished her Potato chip quilt and it looks great! I brought my finished Web quilt to show and let everyone see what wool batting looks and feels like once its quilted.
Looking forward to seeing everyone in August! Happy quilting!
We had another great meeting on June 17th. Lots of show and tell – really loved seeing all the beautiful quilts and others sewing projects! Thanks everyone for sharing.
I did a two quick demos during out meeting. One on how to spin seams on a 9-patch block. Bonny Hunter has a post on how to spin the seams on a 4-patch with pictures, follow this link Spin 4-patch seams to her website. The second demo was on how to put together a potato chip block for our scrappy quilt. A nice YouTube video for this can be found here: Brenda’s potato chip block Video.
We also discussed having a strip or scraps swap for our July meeting. since everyone has a different color palette that we tend to work with, sometimes it’s nice to have a fresh infusion of color in out scrappy quilting. We will limit out strips to 2″ and/or 2.5″ widths. It’s completely voluntary and nobody is required to bring any strips! Since most my the fabric is in Fat Quarters, all of my strips are 20″ -21″ long. I plan to package mine into snack bags in sets fo 24 – 12 of 2″ wide strips and 12 of 2.5″ wide in random colors and have one for everyone in the club. Feel free to bring any number of strips that you are interested in swapping, but let’s have them pressed and sorted in some way so we don’t end up with a wrinkled mountain to pick thru.
Kathleen brought two of her portrait quilts, and after seeing her personalized labels, we convinced Mai-Ling to do a demo on how to make one. The demo will be in our July meeting.
Happy quilting everyone!
Our first meeting in May was wonderful! You can read more in the link.
